REDAH Director Ivica Sivrić participated in the workshop “Cycling Tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, which is being held in Vitez on November 29, 2024, organized by the USAID Project Turizam.
Ivica Sivrić presented the topic “Challenges and Opportunities in the Development of Cycle Trails: The Example of the Ćiro Trail”, as well as other projects and activities that REDAH has implemented and is implementing in support of the development of this branch of tourism.
REDAH played a key role in the revitalization of the narrow-gauge railway by transforming it into a cycling trail, Ćiro. This trail combines local customs, natural and cultural heritage, gastronomy and adventure tourism and has already recorded significant results in increasing the number of visitors and revenue growth. This was helped by the “Ćiro Cycling Trail Management Plan”, which has connected several dozen stakeholders from all sectors. In 2019, REDAH, with several partners developed the Bike Friendly Standard, and since then around 150 facilities have been certified in BiH, Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia and North Macedonia, and the BFS has been protected for the Western Balkans, including Kosovo and Albania.
The one-day event is dedicated to the development of cycle tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the aim of exchanging knowledge, strategies and practical methods for the sustainable development and promotion of this sector.
The aim of this event is to bring together stakeholders in cycle tourism, including representatives of legislative bodies, entrepreneurs, tourism operators and other organizations, to jointly explore the unique potential of BiH as a cycle tourism destination.
The event brought together relevant stakeholders working on the development of cycle tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including cycle tour operators, tourist boards, cycling clubs.
USAID’s Sustainable Tourism Development Project in Bosnia and Herzegovina contributes to the transformation of the country’s tourism sector. The project is focused on improving the global image of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a tourism destination, promoting environmental sustainability and encouraging the development of a skilled workforce in tourism.
